This is an Italeri Freightliner dump truck kit that I built in 1992. This was the last plastic kit that I completed and it won me a first place at the South Australian Plastic Modelers competitions.

My next venture into model trucks was when I asked my employee and good friend , Chris McKay to build the 1/14th scale R/C Tamiya King Hauler kit. First it was built straight out the box just to get the feel of things, but that was too easy so he Australianised it and added a trailer. Chris then took it one step further by adding another trailer and creating a road train.  Laser cut printing promoting  my hobby shop was placed on the trailers and cab. The unit sat on its own shelf behind my counter until it was purchased by a Peterbilt fan.

Following the success of our first effort we looked for ideas for our next project. Tamiya had just released their Ford Aeromax and this coincided with a local wine carrier also purchasing the real thing. The fact that these trucks were pulling B-double tankers gave us the challenge we were looking for. Booth's transport were very helpful in letting me photograph their Fords and the tankers so that the detail on our model would be as accurate as possible. Chris again did most of the work while I supplied the product to work with.

With the B-double up and running we needed another challenge to quench our thirst for these R/C model trucks. We had a spare chassis off a second hand King Hauler and a Globe Liner kit that didn't seem to look like anything Australian. So we added a few extra spares and came up with a 10x6 Peterbilt grain truck similar to what is used in Western Australia.

Although I was starting to run out of space in my shop to display these large and impressive models, Chris decided we needed a Kenworth in the fleet. We had a spare King Hauler body plus the Globe liner chassis  lying around, so Chris combined the two and came up with our SAR Kenworth prime mover and scratch built trailer.  The loader is a cable controlled toy suitably painted to give that weathered used look.  The main features on this rig are the heavily modified bonnet, scratch built grill and super single tyres on the front axle.

The above models have all appeared in both the English "Truck Model World" and the American "Toy Trucker and Contractor". All the models have working lights, 4 to 1 reduction boxes and operate with 4 channel radios. They are all based on standard Tamiya kits with modifications.

Check the rego plates and you will see that they follow in sequence.

And last but not least, two recently completed models. .
